My Mother Was Legitimated Until She Was 42 – Her 5 ‘Big Things’ That Kept Her Young
YOU know you look good when you have to prove in the bar that you are half your age.
A woman who doesn’t want to leave her fine lines to fate has shared how her mother follows five steps to save her skin, making others think she looks decades younger.
Reddit user Yvva knows for sure that she will continue to look good as she ages, because she inherited that from her mother – and grandmother.
She revealed that even after turning 21, her mother still looked like a much younger woman.
“I think she was legitimized until she was 42?” she said.
Even at 56, she wrote that she looked “very good.”
She attributed her mother’s gift for deceiving time to her five commandments for combating wrinkled skin.
Her “big things” included wearing sunscreen and watching her alcohol consumption.
“No more than a glass or two of wine every few weeks,” she said.
At one point she even did this once every few months.
She also avoided all types of drugs and did not smoke, even in the presence of people who smoked.
Another important factor that played a role was genetics.
She also said that the only thing that might give away her age is her now “fried” hair, the result of years of bleaching.
Life has been known to make her look a few years older at times, but overall she’s fooled Father Time.
And Mom wasn’t the only one looking good for her age.
“My grandmother is 96 and skin-wise she looks like she’s in her early 80s,” she said.
Although her grandmother has a deep wrinkle visible between her eyebrows, she attributed it to her “expressive” nature, as she made a “special face.”
She noticed that she was making the same face, but that she also had to adopt her habits, including buying medicines at the drugstore.
How does sunscreen prevent aging?
Dr. Michael Aziz, an internist and author of the upcoming book The Ageless Revolution, revealed five habits of youthful-looking people.
“Sunscreen protects your skin by acting as a barrier against harmful UV rays,” Doctor Aziz told The US Sun.
“There are two main types of ingredients in sunscreen: mineral and chemical.
“Mineral ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide form a physical shield that reflects UV light away from the skin.
“Without SPF protection, your skin can develop uneven pigmentation in an attempt to protect itself from the sun’s rays. This can lead to potential sun damage such as sun spots and premature aging.
“It is essential to use sunscreen to prevent this and maintain healthy skin.”
“When she was young, she always used Pond’s Cold Cream,” she said.
Nana also stayed out of the sun as if it were the plague.
“I don’t even think she washed her face with soap. If she did, it could have been Dove soap,” she said.
All she knew was that she thought she looked “a lot” better than her boyfriend’s grandmother, who is barely 80.
If you want to try out some of her tricks yourself, Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser is on sale for $5.39 at Walmart.
Others shared their own parents’ anti-aging habits.
“My dad is 55 and looks 10 years younger. His secrets? Having oily skin (sorry, that’s the genetic part),” one user wrote.
They also said he doesn’t smoke, wears sunscreen and only uses facial products that contain alcohol.
“My mom is in her late 50s and looks 40 to 45. She says lots of water, a good thick moisturizer at night and sunscreen did it for her,” said another.
“She also doesn’t smoke or drink at all. I hope I look as good as her when I’m her age!” they added.
“My mom is exactly the same. She’s in her 50s and she looks amazing and only uses moisturizer and sunscreen. I wish I could grow that gracefully, I don’t think I can match her good looks. [genetics]”, another noted.
