My parents wanted to name me after a fruit, but instead they named me after a fish
A WOMAN has revealed the name her parents gave her to make sure she stood out.
When choosing a baby name, parents can face all sorts of challenges, from finding a name that no one knows to making sure it fits in with tradition.
But one woman said her parents took an unconventional approach when coming up with her nickname.
She shared on social media: “My parents were from Alaska and were going to name me Blueberry if I was a girl, and an Alaskan town if I was a boy.
She later revealed that some of her parents’ colleagues managed to convince them not to call her Blueberry when they found out they were having a girl.
“Luckily her colleagues stopped her,” she explained.
But the unique name choice didn’t stop there.
Despite being sent away from her parents, they compromised and named her after an animal instead of a fruit.
She revealed: “But I was named after a fish!”
“Halibut.”
Most people think of the word as a delicious meal of fish, vegetables and potatoes, but for this woman it was her name.
She did say there was one saving grave, because her full name wasn’t actually Halibut, but they chose the name Hali.
The post quickly went viral with over 250 likes in the Facebook group, That name is not a tragedy, it’s a murder.
People reacted with shock to the reactions about her chosen name.
Someone wrote: “Where I’m from, halibut is a rash cream.”
Another commented: “Stop it right now lol. Your full name is Halibut?”
