My sister’s baby name is inspired by our mother, people say it’s an ‘abomination’
A future AUNT couldn’t resist publicly sharing her opinion on her sister’s choice of baby name after their late mother.
The child’s name is supposed to be a ‘modern version’ of his deceased mother’s name, but people say it’s an ‘abomination’.
Reddit user Coradoralora wasn’t a fan of the name her sister chose for her baby, despite its meaning.
She shared her thoughts on the popular group Tragedeigh, which is “a first name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is.”
In the aftershe explained that their mother Victoria, also known as Vickie, died when they were teenagers.
BABY BAND
Their mother died of ovarian cancer when her sister was 17 and she was 13.
So they decided to honor her in a special way when they were older.
“We always talked about the fact that the first one of us to have a girl would name her after her mother,” she said.
Cora explained that her sibling was about five months pregnant and that she had found out two weeks earlier that she was having a girl.
“I asked her if she would name her after our mother because she had said a few times that she wanted to honor our mother, but she didn’t really like our mother’s name,” she added.
Cora said her sister told her she planned to give her unborn daughter a “modern version” of her mother’s name.
She planned to call her Vixorya, or Vix and Vixie for short.
The Reddit user admitted that she personally liked the name Victoria and wanted to use it, but that she had “zero prospects” of dating it.
“I don’t think I’ll be having a child anytime soon,” she said.
PUBLIC OPINION
Redditors didn’t hold back and gave their unfiltered opinions.
“Forget bullying at school. Ask her if this is a name she should have on her resume in 25 years?” asked one Redditor.
“Or let her order Starbucks and use that name,” replied another.
One Reddit user even weighed in, saying that “any parent considering a tragedy should do this.”
“I wish she would pick something like mom’s favorite flower, or her favorite color, or her vacation spot. Anything but this abomination of a name,” one person wrote.
“I would say you can still use Victoria. Your sister definitely isn’t using it,” another Reddit user advised.
“This! ON [original poster]“Vixorya isn’t Victoria, but even if it was, you could still use Victoria,” someone else added.
Others found the name funny.
“Vix vaporub. I don’t like it,” someone responded.
“Discuss with your doctor whether Vixorya is right for you,” joked another.
