Yvonne Keal is a Product Manager at the UK-based window decoration company Hillary’s.

In an interview with The US Sun, she shared tips on how to best clean blinds and curtains.

Keal said roller shades can be “easily” incorporated into your regular vacuuming routine to remove dust and dirt.

“You can also use a damp cloth for a more thorough cleaning,” she said.

Remember to let the curtain air dry completely before pulling it back up to prevent mold growth.

“If mould does develop due to condensation, a special textile detergent can be used for effective removal.”

She explained that wooden blinds require different cleaning methods and that the “quickest” way is to clean them with a feather duster or microfiber cloth.

Walmart sells a feather duster with an extendable handle for just $6.30, while a pack of microfiber cloths costs $6.58.

“To give your blinds a more thorough cleaning, consider wiping down each slat with a dry, lint-free cloth,” she said.

“The soft furniture brush on your vacuum cleaner can also be used to prevent dust build-up.”

Thanks to my clever cleaning tactic, you only have to dust your house once a month: mix 3 ingredients you already have at home

“Stubborn stains can be removed efficiently with a damp cloth dipped in a diluted mixture of dishwashing liquid and lukewarm water, but you must be careful not to soak the wood,” she added.

“Be sure to wipe away any excess moisture with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to avoid excessive moisture.”

Keal said the soft brush on vacuum cleaners can be used to brighten curtains.

This is important because dust or animal hair can build up in your home over time.

“And steam cleaners are a handy tool to neaten up your curtains by removing wrinkles and creases,” she said.

Keal revealed that all hacks must be performed with a specific movement for brilliant results.

“For all of the above cleaning methods, you will get the best results if you work from the top down,” she said.

“Pay special attention to folds, edges and the bottom of your window treatments, where dust is more likely to collect.”
