TikToker LilyClaireClaire shared the food storage tip in a viral video.

She stressed that it might just be “the best camping trick ever.”

Instead of filling a cooler with ice, she recommended camping enthusiasts use food containers filled with ice.

Not only does the trick prevent food from spoiling, she said it’s also a great way to preserve food.

“They work like ice cubes, but once they melt, you throw them out. At that point, you’ve made a lot of food, so you can refill them with food,” she said.

“My stepmother is a genius.”

Claire added in a comment that the bigger the containers the better.

With this trick, she explained, you can keep food cold for two to three days.

“Voting for you for president. That’s genius,” said one impressed viewer.

“This might be the best fun,” said another.

Many dug deeper into the trick to streamlining the camping experience.

“Use the melted water for washing dishes!” one commenter suggested.

A resourceful viewer suggested drinking the water instead.

“And drinking water when they melt,” they said.

“I like water bottles much better. As soon as they thaw, you have drinking water,” agreed another.

Another experienced camper shared a trick to make your food last longer on longer expeditions.

“If it’s a multi-day trip, I also freeze the meals I eat toward the end of the trip,” they said.

Others felt that they could perform the trick better with a combination technique.

“Frozen Tupperware in the bottom, a few frozen bottles of water scattered throughout the bag, and if you’re going to be there for a few days, the frozen meals you’ll be eating toward the end of your trip,” they said.

“Remember to freeze boiling water so you don’t have to boil it later,” added another.
