She shared the hacks on the Facebook page Mrs Hinch cleaning tips in response to another user’s request for help in freshening up her teenager’s room.

The original poster stated that her son’s room “still smells very musty,” despite all the efforts she’s made to keep odors from lingering.

According to the commentator, there are seven things you can do to ensure that the room always smells fresh.

Her first tip was to invest in a disposable dehumidifier and place it by the window.

Mighty Power Damp Traps are available in a pack of two for £1 at Poundland.

She also advised leaving the windows in the room open, if possible.

According to the cleaning veteran, it is also necessary to spray the room with a textile freshener.

She suggested Neutradol Deofab spray, which is available from Savers for £1.49.

“Usage [it on] “curtains, carpets, sneakers, clothes,” she advised.

She also added foot powder to each pair of her son’s sneakers to tackle stubborn odors.

The mother also shared the best ways to keep your bedding clean.

“Replace your pillows twice a year and use a pillow protector,” she told her Facebook friends.

She also recommended sprinkling baking soda on the mattress and letting it sit for a moment before vacuuming it up.

According to her, this task should be performed monthly for best results.

Her last and most unexpected tip was about making your bed every day.

Tips for a fresh bedroom

  • Place a disposable dehumidifier on the windowsill.
  • Keep the windows open if possible.
  • Spray curtains, carpets, sports shoes and clothing with a fabric freshener.
  • Put foot powder in your sneakers.
  • Replace your pillows twice a year and use a pillow protector.
  • Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress and vacuum it monthly.
  • Don’t make the bed.

She advised against this, as it can cause unwanted odors to linger instead of airing out the bedding.

The experts of the National Library of Medicine explained why a “well-made bed” could be considered “an underestimated public health risk.”

“Imperceptible fluid losses, such as sweating and salivation, can amount to up to a litre of fluid per night per person lying in bed,” they explain.

They advised airing your bedding daily rather than perfecting your hotel room tuck-in.

This prevents moisture from remaining and musty odors are prevented.
