An investigation is underway after a man’s body was pulled from the water at a boat launch in South Australia on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Solomontown jetty in Port Pirie, three hours north of Adelaide, at around 6am after the man was spotted.
The 50-year-old Port Pirie West man was pronounced dead at the scene. CCTV from a nearby business showed the man was alive 30 minutes earlier.
According to the South African police, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage of the investigation, but the coroner has yet to determine a cause.
According to reports, officers took photos of a bicycle at the jetty, but it is unclear whether it belonged to the deceased.
A local resident who was walking her dog near the crime scene said she did not know the man but hoped his family could be “comforted”.
“These things don’t happen often… We’re a close-knit community and this is going to make a big splash,” she said. The Adelaide Advertiser.
The area was briefly closed to the public on Saturday while investigators processed the crime scene and divers searched the water, but the area was reopened by mid-afternoon.
