Mystery as 25 cows drop dead in Oakford field in Perth
An investigation is underway after a herd of cattle was found dead in a field.
A woman made the horrific discovery as she drove past a property in Oakford in Perth’s southern suburbs to feed her horses.
In a video posted on social media, the woman claimed that one of the 25 dead cows found since Sunday was lying on a pile of wood.
The owner of the property was reportedly away, with his son telling Seven News the cows had pneumonia.
Due to recent wet weather, the dead cows could not be collected or buried, the son added.
The RSPCA will conduct an extensive investigation to determine exactly what killed the cattle.
RSPCA investigators were at the scene on Tuesday to inspect the dead cattle.
According to Meat and Livestock Australia, bovine pneumonia is often associated with cattle respiratory disease and is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in cattle in fattening sheds.

To treat cattle with pneumonia it is recommended that Affected animals are isolated in a well-ventilated area, protected from extreme cold or heat.
It is also important to maintain hydration, ensure the animal has easy access to water and food, and to minimize the animal’s physical stress.
Treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs can promote recovery.
