Mystery as British tourist, 32, is found dead in Bali hostel hours after begging staff to let him change his room

A British tourist was found dead in a Bali hostel hours after begging staff to let him change his room.

The 32-year-old man from England told his friend he felt ill before retreating to his room at the hotel in Badung Regency on September 26.

He reportedly planned to switch rooms the next day, but never showed up the next morning.

A cleaner, Komang Ari Triwarsana, 19, said she discovered the Briton’s corpse when she checked on the guest at around 12.30pm on September 27.

She said she became suspicious because he still hadn’t woken up after noon. She reported it to hotel staff, who called the police to investigate.

Badung Police Public Relations Chief Ipda I Putu Sukarma said: “The witness tried to clean the room because the victim actually wanted to change rooms. It was his own request the day before.

‘The witness knocked on the wall of the room several times, but there was no response. Suspecting that something untoward had happened in the room, she tried to open the curtain and was shocked to see the victim lying face down.”

Police said the British man was found lying in bed wearing black Nike shorts.

It was said that fluid was leaking from his nose and mouth, mixed with blood. There was also discharge from his genitals and feces leaking from his anus.

Officials said no signs of violence were found.

The room contained various medications and hygiene products, including Promag, Claritin and facial creams.

Hotel receptionist Dayu Novi, 24, said the man spoke to her the night before asking for a room change.

She said: ‘Yesterday afternoon at around 12.53pm the victim’s friend, who was also staying here, messaged the manager asking him to come and check on him. The request came because the victim had previously admitted that he was not feeling well.”

Badung police said they believe the Briton was ill. He was sent to Prof. IGNG Ngoerah General Hospital Denpasar for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
