NCPI launches UPI One World Wallet service for international travelers
UPI One World wallet service has been launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and international travellers visiting the country. The service was first announced last year during the G20 summit that India hosted. It will enable travellers who do not have an Indian bank account to access the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system and make payments using it. The initiative was launched by NPCI in collaboration with IDFC First Bank and Transcorp International Limited under the guidance of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
UPI One World Wallet Service Launched
Announcing the service in a afterNPCI said that travellers visiting India can make secure digital payments and transact with merchants and sellers across the country using the UPI One World wallet. The service ensures that travellers no longer have to carry large amounts of cash or avoid the hassle of multi-currency transactions.
The UPI One World Wallet service allows foreign travellers and NRIs to download a Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI)-UPI app that allows them to scan merchants’ QR codes using their smartphone’s camera to make payments.
They can also make online transactions using their UPI ID. According to NPCI, the UPI One World wallet can be used in retail stores, hotels and restaurants, as well as for online shopping, entertainment, transportation, travel booking and more.
To avail the service, users need to download the PPI-UPI app from authorized issuers across the country. Once the app is issued, travelers can recharge the app with the desired amount in INR. Any unused amount will be refunded back to the source of origin, as per foreign exchange regulations. The initiative aims to make traveling and staying in India seamless for international visitors.

- Travelers can then top up the app with INR value by exchanging foreign currency at the card issuer’s counter or using a credit or debit card.
- You can then use the app to make UPI payments.
