Nearly 100,000 Australians who have waited hours in line have been told they will not receive their Covid test results – as exhausted health personnel reveal the horrific conditions they have endured during the pandemic.
Victorian residents received a text on Saturday saying their ‘PCR sample is no longer suitable for processing and no result can be provided’.
The post went on to suggest that from their first date of testing, they should have a rapid antigen test or be in self-isolation for seven days.
As some people had queued for up to three consecutive days to be tested, the development – brought on by overworked labs – has frustrated many as Covid cases in Australia rise to more than 100,000 a day.
A number of residents are now also not sure whether they are infected with Covid – or were previously.
It comes as a nurse in rural Victoria, who declined to be named, opened up about how some angry patients abused or spat on her colleagues, and also refused to wear face masks during treatment while unvaccinated.

‘There is no time for drinking breaks and we go often [through] 8-10pm shifts with no meal break… we’re also constantly understaffed,” the licensed nurse told news.com.au.
“Everyone is burned out, exhausted, dehydrated and gets sick as a result. We work so hard to take care of others, but we don’t take care of ourselves. I now fear my job with every inch of my body.
“We wear full PPE but many patients refuse to care about anyone but themselves, they ask for treatment but don’t stay vaxx, spit on us, refuse to wear a mask, shout insults. We don’t deserve this.’
Victoria Covid commander Jeroen Weimar confirmed on Saturday that nearly 90,000 PCR tests from a week ago have been discarded as testing labs are under pressure.
“They (testers) have made the decision to essentially not process some of the old tests,” he said.
“This is something we understand and support… but we do apologize on behalf of the wider testing system.”

The confession of exhausted health professionals questions Scott Morrisons’ insistence that hospitals across the country would comfortably handle the Omicron outbreak.
NSW Prime Minister Dominic Perrottet is adamant that the state’s hospital system would be able to meet the overwhelming demand from patients, stating: ‘We (NSW) have invested significantly… we have the best health system in the country. , if not the world.’
A nurse from the far north coast of NSW reacted bluntly when asked if the state government is currently doing enough to support health workers.
‘New. We were the heroes of 2020 and now we’re just pawns until they let us all leave,” she said.
The neglected nurse revealed that her co-workers are constantly expected to work double shifts from 4 to 6 p.m. – before a co-worker joined, she was working 24 hours in a row due to a lack of available staff.
