Nearly half of Britons ‘secretly’ admire the French and are jealous of their food and style
SHOCKING new research has revealed that most Britons secretly admire the French.
A survey of 2,000 people found that we envy their superior food, sense of style and enviable work-life balance.
Four in ten even claim to “idolize” the French lifestyle and 66 percent would like to adopt certain aspects of it in their own lives.
The research even shows that we admire their methods: for example, they stop at the agreed time and go on strike if they do not get what they want.
43 percent would like to have the same passion for fashion as the French, and 39 percent admire the way they have perfected the ideal work-life balance.
A spokesman for St Pierre, which commissioned the research as it calls on Britons to ‘eat with respect’, said: ‘The French lifestyle is often admired and romanticised around the world, and for good reason.
“It can be characterised by a balance between work, leisure and enjoying the finer things in life – something we don’t always have here in the UK.
“When it comes to food, meals are often a time to savor and savour, rather than rush, and the French take pride in what they eat, right down to the presentation.”
The survey found that 32 percent had even considered moving to France because of the lifestyle, which was described as ‘stylish’ (48 percent), relaxed (41 percent) and ‘balanced’ (36 percent).
And three in ten even went so far as to say that if everyone adopted some aspects of the French lifestyle, the world would be a happier place.
It also turned out that 27 percent have friends or peers from the idolized country who have influenced their own lifestyle in one way or another.
People who admire the French have adopted in their daily lives, among other things, eating fresh ingredients, enjoying doing nothing and taking in their surroundings rather than rushing.
They would like to avoid more processed foods, make time for hobbies and interests, and be more romantic, but that hasn’t happened yet.
The OnePoll.com Data shows that 43 percent believe the French treat their food and meals with more respect than the British.
The average adult in the UK spends just 47 minutes in total on breakfast, lunch and tea.
But 24 percent think it would be better for their mood if they made time for a tasty lunch during the workday.
Dinner is the dish that people prepare themselves most often, with 26 percent admitting that they only do this three times a week, due to a lack of time, skills and desire.
Of the well-known British dishes, roast dinners, afternoon tea and baked potatoes were the ones respondents most wanted to spice up with a ‘French twist’.
And of the meals we’re most proud of, the Sunday roast, the full English breakfast and the beef wellington were on the list.
The spokesperson added: “While both British and French eating habits have their own unique characteristics, they also reflect wider cultural values.
“The British generally value hearty, comforting meals, while the French place great value on culinary tradition, quality ingredients and the social aspect of dining.
“But regardless of culture, food is a great equalizer because it’s more than just food on a plate – it’s a shared experience and memory-making that unites us all, despite different influences and ever-changing culinary trends.”
