NEET-UG 2024: SC to hear petitions on irregularities on July 18 | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The High Council has the NEET-UG hearing until next Thursday, July 18, to determine the alleged irregularities And malpractice during the medical entrance examination on May 5. The CBI has submitted a status report to the court regarding the ongoing research in the matter.
The central government on Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, stating that the NEET-UG 2024 exam was not marred by “massive malpractices” or any local group of candidates receiving undue advantage, leading to abnormal scores. The government said an analysis conducted by IIT Madras had found no evidence of widespread irregularities or any specific group of candidates receiving undue advantage, which could have led to atypical scores.
The oath further stated that the distribution of marks in the examination follows a bell-shaped curve, which is a common phenomenon in large-scale examinations and does not suggest any abnormality. The Centre also informed the Supreme Court through a supplementary oath that the counselling process will be conducted in four rounds, with the first round commencing in the third week of July.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court had raised concerns over the integrity of the NEET-UG 2024 examination, suggesting that if the leaked question paper was circulated on social media platforms, a re-examination be conducted. Stressing the importance of holding the authorities accountable, the court adjourned the matter till July 11, asking the CBI to submit a status report by Wednesday.
Currently, the Supreme Court is hearing over 30 petitions related to the NEET-UG exam, raising various issues, including allegations of irregularities and malpractices during the May 5 test. Some petitioners are seeking a direction to re-conduct the exam.
In a separate petition, over 50 successful NEET-UG candidates from Gujarat moved the court seeking a direction to restrain the Centre and the National Testing Authority (NTA) from declaring the disputed exam null and void.
The NEET-UG exam has been marred by allegations of malpractices, including alleged paper leaks and questionable assessment methods, leading to widespread anger and demonstrations across the country. As a result, certain students were told to retake the NEET UG exam and the NEET-PG exam was postponed.
