Netflix cancels hit supernatural series Dead Boy Detectives, but fans want him back from the grave
Dead Boys Detectives has officially been canceled after Netflix put the final nail in the coffin for the supernatural horror series. This isn’t the first time a popular series has been axed by the top streaming service, and it’s left a bitter taste in fans’ mouths.
A few months ago there was a show with a similar atmosphere, Lockwood and Co. received the same treatment despite a glowing 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so it’s an unfortunate case of history repeating itself and disappointing horror fans.
Variety confirmed the sad news about Dead Boys Detectives on August 30th, although a reason for the sudden cancellation has not been confirmed by Netflix. However, there is some consolation, as a series is set in the same universe, The Sandmanwill return for season 2.
Now that Netflix is picking up disappointing movies like Incoming And The Union (Here Are Three Better Teen Comedies and Three Better Action Movies to Watch Instead) Over the past few months, fans have every right to be angry as the supply of good movies has rapidly disappeared from our Netflix libraries.
Indeed, data from Nielsen’s streaming charts reveals that the top Netflix series was one of the 10 most-watched shows the week it was released in April earlier this year (see post below). And with competitors releasing huge hits, it’s a puzzling decision.
The first season of Dead Boys Detectives will still be watchable despite the cancellation, but newcomers may not want to watch the film since the story has ended abruptly.
There are many shows that were unjustly and unfortunately cancelled this year because they didn’t even make it into these charts. Dead Boy Detectives did and was still cancelled. #SaveDeadBoyDetectives #DeadBoyDetectivesSeptember 1, 2024
What do fans say about Dead Boy Detectives?
Fans are outraged by the cancellation and have created a hashtag #SaveDeadBoyDetectives on social media. This is common among disgruntled fans of shows, and it’s no exception here, with people rushing to Dead Boys Detectives from the grave.
Many fans have weighed in with some thoughtful arguments as to why the show should continue, sharing their strong opinions on X (formerly Twitter). One claimed that Netflix’s repeated decision to cancel shows will discourage viewers from watching new shows, in case they don’t make it past the first season.

Another called on fans to make noise and share the hashtag, hoping that Netflix would notice that people really don’t want the show to go away. Meanwhile, a second person shared a tribute to everyone who’s appeared on the show, so it’s clear that fans aren’t willing to let it go away without a fight.
