Netflix is facing Stranger Things leak threats as hackers on X claim to have leaked the first three episodes of the show’s final season
Fans of one of the best Netflix series have been patiently waiting for the arrival of Stranger Things‘ fifth season, but now the streaming giant is dealing with online threats even more menacing than Vecna himself. In an X (formerly Twitter) message published on August 8, as Netflix was in the midst of a massive data breach that leaked episodes of other shows, an anonymous hacker warned that they had access to the first three episodes of the final season and that they would be uploading and posting them “later.”
Netflix just had a big leak, I’ve heard from people that the first 3 unfinished episodes will be released later. Take it with a grain of salt, we’ll see. #StrangerThings5 #StrangerThings #Netflix pic.twitter.com/0z9oSnD6ETAugust 8, 2024
The news was posted via the account @UpsideDownScoop, a Stranger Things fan account that shares news, updates, and leaks about the Netflix show. While Netflix has yet to respond to the threat, the entertainment site has Soap Central has since reported on the leaks, sharing that “the anonymous leaker has maintained that he leaked the first three episodes of Stranger Things season 5, which he will leak at some point”.
But just like last week when the post was originally released, there is still no credibility attached to the rumors. Nevertheless, the news has caused a lot of concern and skepticism among fans of the show who are now understandably worried about encountering leaks and spoilers that could surface online.
since the other leaks were real this one probably is too..i’m so scared i hope it won’t actually leakAugust 8, 2024
Netflix is struggling with a leak crisis
It’s frustrating for Netflix to have yet another show leaked, but this isn’t new territory for the top streaming service. It seems that these online hackers are targeting Netflix, as there have been so many shows leaking online lately. This was due to an issue with one of their production partners, with Netflix saying The Wrap: “One of our post production partners has been compromised and unfortunately footage from several of our titles has leaked online“.
As it stands, this is Netflix’s biggest leak-based scandal to date and as a result, immediate measures have been taken to ensure that no more leaks are made, as it is unknown how many Netflix films and series are at risk. Concerns that the fifth and final season of Stranger Things would become the next target for online leaks, and now that concern has unfortunately become a reality for Netflix.
In the run-up to Stranger Things Season 5, Netflix released a first look video in July featuring behind-the-scenes footage and a hint at a possible time jump, alongside social media posts foreshadowing the show’s harrowing finale. An official release date has yet to be revealed, but I imagine the final season will be split into two parts, like other recent titles. Let’s hope the episodes are released as Netflix intended.
