Netflix is turning a Harry Hole book into the mystery series Detective Hole – I just hope it’s better than the film adaptation’s 7% Rotten Tomatoes score
Netflix announces new mystery thriller series Detective hole back in may, which is based on Jo Nesbø’s series of crime novels about the legendary detective Harry Hole. Although the serial killer whodunnit sounds pretty horrifying, I just hope it doesn’t suffer the same fate as the film adaptation of The snowman, which scores 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Film adaptations of books have proven to be a huge hit on the top streaming service, including: Thought hunter, Rijpley, and the new A Good Guide to Murder for Girls all become some of the best Netflix series. So it comes as no surprise that the streamer has decided to create another Netflix Original series from the work of one of crime fiction’s best storytellers, Jo Nesbø.
But it’s not the first time Nesbø’s book has been adapted into a film, with Michael Fassbender playing Hole in the 2017 flop The snowman, which received a terrible 7% Rotten Tomatoes score. In The snowman, Hole tracks down a serial killer in Oslo who builds snowmen at crime scenes.
Vote brutally judged The snowman as “the most horrible movie I expect to see in 2017”, so I’m just hoping that Detective hole will be more appealing in this new Netflix series coming out in 2026.
What is Detective Hole about?
Detective hole revolves around Harry Hole, a famous but tormented detective who takes on his old rival and corrupt police officer Tom Waaler, while a serial killer terrorizes Oslo.
The official Netflix plot reads: “As the two explore the blurred ethical boundaries of the criminal justice system, Harry must do everything he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it’s too late.”
After the announcement of Tobias Santelmann as Harry, Joel Kinnaman as Tom and Pia Tjelta as Rakel Fauke, Netflix now has the rest of the Detective hole formwith Peter Stormare, Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Kåre Conradi, Simon Berger, Fridtjov Såheim and Eili Harboe all on board to star in this Scandinavian noir series.
They also include: Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Henriette Steenstrup, Jesper Christensen, Kristoffer Joner, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Linn Skåber, Jonas Strand Gravli and Sonny Lindberg, and many more.
It certainly looks promising that Detective hole can join my list of favorite detective series The Sinner, BaptisteAnd Luther.
