New Baldur’s Gate 3 player stats reveal how many people have punched the bear
Larian Studios has brand new Baldurs Gate 3 statistics to celebrate the game’s first anniversary.
The developer announced the stats in a series X / Twitter posts showing the many ways players have contributed to their game, one year after the launch of the popular role-playing game.
There’s plenty to dig into, but one of the most striking stats concerns the game’s Honor Mode. According to Larian, only 141,600 players have completed the permadeath mode, while 1,223,305 playthroughs were unsuccessful.
Baldurs Gate 3 is known for its memorable companions, and even lets you play the game from their perspective as one of the Origin characters. Astarion in particular has proven to be one of the most popular, with 1.21 million players choosing to play as the vampire. He is closely followed by Gale with 1.20 million, with Shadowheart in third place with 86 million.
However, Larian indicates that over 93% of players chose to play as their own character, with only 15% choosing Dark Urge.
It’s been a year since Baldur’s Gate 3 came out, and guess what? Over a quarter of you can’t trust yourself not to pick a fight with a djinn, and a surprising number of you are into bear sex and tentacles. Who knew? pic.twitter.com/kU9fAH6tnZAugust 7, 2024
Romance is also a huge part of any playthrough, as Larian notes a staggering 75 million kisses across all companions. Overall, it seems like Shadowheart has captured everyone’s hearts, as she leads with 27 million kisses, followed by Astarion at 15 million. Minthara is apparently the least popular, with only 169,937 kisses from players.
Larian also made a point of sharing some less conventional romance stats. While not the most popular companion, it was revealed that 658,000 players have slept with the druid Halsin, 70% in his human form, while 30% chose his bear form.
As for the Emperor, 1.1 million players preferred the Mind Flayer, though 37% opted to keep the tentacle form.
There are many more highlights, but one of the most shocking stats comes at the end of the thread. Only 34 players playing as Lae’zel chose to commit suicide at the end of the game after Vlaakith rejected their ascension, which Larian’s publishing director Michael Douse I found it very funny.
Despite the game’s huge success and numerous ‘Game of the Year’ awards, Larian has confirmed that it is turning its back on the Baldur’s Gate series to focus on other projects.
This also means that the RPG will not receive any more expansions in the future, but one final major content patch for the game will be released next month.
