New Call of Duty game will reduce bandwidth-hogging download size

You may want to hold off on upgrading your hard drive if you think you’ll need more space to store Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s October release. Activision announced in a blog post It was announced on Thursday that this year’s edition of the popular shooter franchise will be a much smaller download version, among other changes ahead of its October 25 launch date.

The biggest change, especially for gamers dreading the prospect of a gigantic download, is that Call of Duty: Warzone, a battle royale game that’s bundled with the main game, is being split off into its own download. Players of the free-to-play game will still be able to access the game, but it won’t be included in the Black Ops 6 download, which could save you a whopping 130GB of hard drive space.

Other changes for this year’s edition include a revamped user interface and a new system that lets you stream certain game graphics if needed, rather than having to download them all in advance.

How big is the file size of Call of Duty: Blacks Ops 6?

While we won’t know for sure until October, Activision has confirmed that it will be much smaller than 300GB.

Changes ahead of Black Ops 6 will also introduce a revamped file organization system. The result for players on PlayStation 5 is that updates will be split into four parts. Activision says that other platforms, including Xbox and PC, will receive updates to their Call of Duty experience as a single download.

An early beta test of the new game begins on August 30 and runs until September 4. An open beta will take place from September 6 to 9.
