New Deadpool and Wolverine Trailer Reveals Another Big Marvel Movie Cameo – And I Want It to Stop
Major spoilers may follow for Deadpool and Wolverine.
We are less than a week away (at the time of writing) from Deadpool and Wolverine in theaters, but Marvel can’t resist revealing some major cameos in the film.
The Marvel Phase 5 film is set to hit theaters on July 25 (international) and July 26 (US). The comic book giant has been stoking the hype among its fans by releasing a few more films. another new trailer. The gripping two-minute teaser, which you can watch below, contains plenty of new footage to dig through, but it’s confirmation of another big character reveal that will dominate discussions in the immediate aftermath of the teaser’s release.
I cannot stress this enough, dear reader: potentially major cast spoilers follow from now.
Yes, that’s none other than Dafne Keen, who played X-23, aka Laura, aka Wolverine’s “daughter”. Technically, she’s his clone, but let’s not overcomplicate things here. Anyway, she starred in Loganthe 2017 X-Men film that was supposed to be the swan song for Hugh Jackman, who had played the adamantium-clawed mutant for 17 years up to that point.
If you want a specific timestamp (down to the second) for where Keen appears in the final trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, you can see her at the 1:29 mark. She can be seen reacting to Jackman’s Wolverine, who tells her around a campfire that “whoever you think I am, you’ve got the wrong guy” – to which Keen’s X-23 responds, “You were always the wrong guy, until you wasn’t”. [Update: in conversation with Entertainment Weekly post-trailer release, Keen alluded to the prospect that her role will be more substantial than just a cameo, adding: “The first thing I did for Deadpool was stunt training before I shot anything. I put on the costume and was like, ‘Oh! She’s back'”. It sounds like Keen, then, could be involved in a fight sequence or two as well.]
Now I know what you’re thinking: “Tom, why don’t you just not watch the trailer if you don’t want anything spoiled before you see the movie?” It’s a fair question, but since it’s my job to cover such revelations, it’s extremely difficult to avoid spoilers like this. I know, woe is me and all that.
Still, it would be nice if Marvel would stop revealing who will appear in the series. Deadpool and Wolverine now. Sure, the fact that they’re confirming Keen’s appearance must mean there are even bigger surprises to come, but I can’t help but wish Marvel would hold back and, I don’t know, just let us enjoy every crowd-pleaser on the biggest screen possible. We’re only seven days away from one of the most anticipated new movies of 2024 hitting theaters, after all — so Marvel, please stop with the spoilers, will you?
To mislead fans
What makes Keen’s appearance so interesting is a two-part discussion. First, Keen, who fans may also recognize from Star Wars: The Acolytewhich recently ended its eight-episode run on Disney Plus, previously downplayed suggestions that it would Deadpool and Wolverine.
Speak with Entertainment on demand As recently as June 1, Keen said of her possible appearance in the film: “It’s sad. I love Hugh Jackman [and] Ryan Reynolds is a legend. It would have been amazing to be a part of it.” It’s clear that the Are dark materials alumnus is a better liar than Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield, who struggled to convince people he wasn’t in Spider-Man: No Way Home before its release in December 2021.
Perhaps even more interesting is whether Keen is playing the same Laura/X-23 we last saw in Logan. Of Deadpool3 As another multiversal Marvel film, there’s clearly room for this version of the character to cross over into the MCU, much like the title duo is expected to do over the course of the film’s runtime. However, it’s also possible that Keen is playing a variation of Logan‘s X-23 – perhaps someone who already exists in the MCU (or even in Wolverine’s world itself) – is called upon to give him a much-needed pep talk in order to convince the iconic X-Men member to help Deadpool save his own universe.
Anyway, Keen’s cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine is just the latest that Marvel has confirmed ahead of the film’s upcoming release. Back in late June, another new trailer teased an X-Men movie rematch that fans have been waiting 24 years for. What’s more, the entertainment giant has been teasing other cameos in recent weeks and months, including numerous Deadpool variants (including Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, and Cowboy Deadpool), as well as the return of villains from many other X-Men films, like Toad and Lady Deathstrike, and the odd Wolverine variant or three.
