New Mr Men books in stores for the first time in 3 years – featuring 2 new characters
TWO new Mr Men books are in stores today. The main characters are the prolific liar Mr Fib and the always surprised Little Miss Surprise.
They are the first new characters in three years in the popular children’s book series, which started in 1971.
The round and green Mr. Fib, the 51st creation of Mr. Men, is an eccentric with a blue top hat who “lies to impress people”.
His book follows him as his lies spiral out of control. Little Miss Surprise is a purple character with crazy pink her who “never knows what the day will bring”.
She takes Mr Quiet, who first appeared in 1978, along for a ‘surprise’ outing.
Both new books are written and illustrated by 60-year-old Adam Hargreaves, who took over from his father Roger, the creator of Mr Men, after his death in 1988.
Mr. Calm, who taught children how to cope with stress, was the last new character introduced in 2021.
The very first Mr Men book — Mr Tickle — came about after Adam asked his father to draw what a tickle looks like.
Since then, more than 90 characters have been introduced, selling 250 million books in 17 languages and 28 countries.
Author Adam said: “Mr Fib has been haunting my imagination for a while now. Little Miss Surprise of course popped into my head out of nowhere!
“It’s always fun to create new characters for the series, but I still have to wait a while before I get to know my father again.”
