Newcastle are exploring the chance to sign Leicester’s Arsenal target Youri Tielemans before Thursday’s deadline… and Eddie Howe also keen to get a defensive midfielder on loan before the windows slam shut
- Youri Tielemans is strongly associated with a move to Arsenal this summer
- The Leicester midfielder has just one year left at Leicester City
- Newcastle are now looking into signing him before Thursday’s deadline
- Eddie Howe would also like to loan a defensive midfielder for the 11pm close
Newcastle are investigating the possibility of taking over Youri Tielemans from crisis club Leicester.
The 25-year-old has attracted a lot of interest from Arsenal this summer and is considered their number 1 target if Mikel Arteta chooses to bolster his midfield after Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny’s injuries.
But Sports post understand that Newcastle have now started the race and are trying to see if Tielemans – who is in the last year of his contract and keen to leave the club – is an option for them late in the window.

The Foxes have not yet received an offer they see fit for the Belgian, despite interest in the Belgium international, who have also reportedly been eyeing Liverpool.
If he leaves before 11pm on Thursday, Tielemans will be the third sale at Leicester this summer, with Kasper Schmeichel joining Nice and Wesley Fofana poised to make a £70million transfer to Chelsea.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers admits his team is currently unstable due to uncertainty surrounding some of his players.
“I think I said before that any environment to develop should be stable. Our stability is not there.

“That changes when the window closes. There are players who may have thought they were moving on, but they are not. We failed to bring in players to improve.
“And then there are players in the final years of their contract. We must collectively beat the drum.
“We have talented players, but it’s nothing if it’s not done collectively. When the window closes, it should settle down.’
Magpies boss Eddie Howe also wants the club to loan a defensive midfielder ahead of the transfer window deadline on Thursday.

The Magpies have spent over £100million on signings this summer, with a record £60million following Alexander Isak this summer following Sven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope to St James’ Park.
And Sports post understands Eddie Howe still wants to sign a number 6 before the 11pm deadline, with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz among the names they’re interested in.
Luiz, 24, has just 12 months left on his current contract with Villa Park and is also attracting interest from Atletico Madrid.
