NEW DELHI: A Nigerian man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country Cocaine worth 25 crore rupees at the international airport here, according to an official statement issued on Monday. The suspect was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai on September 7.
During the investigation, the passenger told officers that he had been keeping a secret capsules with narcotics or psychotropic substances, the statement said customs department.
He is said to have voluntarily excreted 28 oval capsules, which are suspected of containing narcotics.
“He confirmed that there were more capsules in his body and agreed to undergo medical procedures to remove them. The passenger was then taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical procedures. During his stay in the hospital, he brought out another 56 (fifty-six) capsules,” the statement said.
When these capsules were cut open, they contained white powder/granules, which were suspected to be narcotics A quantity of 1,660 grams was found and a test determined that the substance contained cocaine.
The value of the cocaine is estimated at Rs 24.90 crore, the statement said. The passenger has been arrested.
