Nobody wants 8 GB GPUs from Nvidia and AMD – and this retailer has just made it clear

- NVIDIA and AMD 8GB GPUS sales numbers are low with a German retailer
- The NVIDIA RTX 5060 TI and AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB models have been sold considerably higher
- It is a strong indication that gamers prefer GPUs with more Vram
We are now deep in Nvidia And AMD‘s new GPU launches, with the first recently released the new low-end RTX 5050 8GB GPU. However, one retailer has made it alarmingly clear that consumers are looking for Gaming GPUs elsewhere.
As reported by WCCCTECHA German retailer, Mindfactory, has a low number of units sold NVIDIA RTX 5060 TI (8 GB) and the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT (8 GB), noticeably less than their 16 GB opposite hits – this is thanks to the retailer who shows how many units have been sold on each product.
In essence, it is an indication that PC gamers do not want 8 GB GPUs, or at least a large majority prefer GPUs with more VRAM capacities. Although it can also be a suggestion for low availability, this is no problem for these lower GPUs in most regions, with blown prices that consumers throw away.
It is no secret that games are getting more free, and while 8 GB is not complete Useless (it is still relevant for 1080p gaming), it is not the best option for games today. Frame generation, which would considerably help performance with 8 GP GPUs where necessary, increases VRAM consumption -and that is the last thing these GPUs need.
Analysis: Hopefully this is the last generation of 8GB GPUs …
So far, Intel Seems to be the only one among the three major technical giants who leave 8GB GPUs. AMD and Nvidia have been stuck to 8GB configurations for their new GPUs, and if I am honest, I see no benefit for it.
Again, I don’t suggest that 8GB GPUs are meaningless; There is certainly a considerable number of PC gamers with a budget that do not need middle to high hardware, where an 8GB card would be useful. However, the current trend of poor performance in PC games, combined with bloated prices of GPUs above their selling price, makes these graphic cards a hard sale.
The only place where I would tolerate 8 GP GPUs is in low-end and affordable gaming laptops. Laptop GPUs do not correspond to discreet desktop GPUs in terms of performance, so expectations of decent frame speeds are expected. But it is not the same case if you build a desktop installation, where you expect a true money – and I don’t think 8 GB Vram can achieve that.
However, it is all above the point, because the simple case of more vram-hungry games should be sufficient to put an end to 8 GB cards. I just hope that this generation will be the last we see from them …
