'Not in good taste': Now BJP's Ashok Chavan and Pankaja Munde reject 'batenge, katenge' slogan
NEW DELHI: After Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Ashok Chavan and Pankaja Munde have now lifted the slogan ‘batenge toh katenge’ from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath rejected.
BJP MP and former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan disapproved of the slogan, stating that it was not appropriate and relevant.
“This (slogan) has no relevance. Slogans are given during election times. This particular slogan is not in good taste and I don’t think people will like it. Personally, I am not in favor of such slogans.” Chavan told news agency PTI.

Chavan also dismissed the meaning of the rhetoric of “vote jihad – dharma yuddha” and emphasized that the BJP and the ruling Mahayuti are primarily focused on national development and the development of Maharashtra.

Speaking at Ardhapur in Nanded during his Mahayuti election campaign, the BJP leader further added, “Every political functionary has to take a decision after much thought. We must also ensure that no one’s feelings are hurt.”
Earlier, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had stated that ‘vote jihad’ should be fought through ‘dharma-yuddha’ of voting.
Another BJP leader Pankaja Munde also rejected UP CM’s ‘benefit’ comment and said it is different from her politics.
In recent interviews, Munde said, “Honestly, my politics are different. I will not support it just because I am from that party. My belief is that we should only work on development. this country like ours. Therefore, we do not need to bring such an issue to Maharashtra.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, a BJP ally in Mahayuti, has also opposed UP CM’s slogan.
“The comment ‘batenge toh katenge’ is inappropriate. The mindset of people in UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh is different, but such statements do not work here. The use of such words, in my opinion, has no meaning in Maharashtra. Maharashtra is the state of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Shivaji Maharaj are different, and they think differently. If anyone leaves the ideology of Shahu, Shivaji, Phule and Ambedkar, Maharashtra will not spare them,” Ajit Pawar had told PTI.
