Nothing OS 3.0 brings new customization options and these features

Nothing OS 3.0 update was announced by the British smartphone maker on Tuesday, alongside the launch of the Nothing Ear Open – the company’s first-ever open-style true wireless (TWS) earbuds. The update, which was first announced earlier this year, will bring artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features such as natural language search and smart image categorization. It is also said to introduce more customization and personalization options, new apps and widgets, and system-wide performance improvements.

Nothing OS 3.0 Update Features

In a video posted on Nothing’s YouTube channel, the company revealed several features that are coming in the upcoming update. While it’s not official, it’s speculated to be based on Android 15 — the latest Android operating system (OS) that was released globally earlier this month.

One of the most notable changes in the upcoming Nothing OS 3.0 update is the refreshed font. Nothing says it will feature an updated Sans Serif font alongside the existing N-Dot font across the OS and apps, making for a cleaner, more modern look. It also features a new dot animation engine, which animates and dynamically changes the font during activities like unlocking or charging the handset. It can also display items like the icons in the Weather app in dot-matrix style.

The update also brings a completely new lock screen that makes editing more direct. It brings new watch faces, fonts, and design layouts. Quick settings in Nothing OS have also been overhauled, and are now based on the same grid system as the home screen. Users can also pin apps to the top of the app drawer. Nothing has also introduced a new Countdown widget. As the name suggests, this allows users to start a countdown to a specific date, in addition to displaying things like the progress of a year. Users can also link widgets to friends and family, and share content across devices.

AI features will also be included in Nothing OS 3.0, the Carl Pei-led company confirmed. It will bring a new smart organization system for apps that will automatically sort them into different categories based on usage. The upcoming Nothing update will also include a new Gallery app that uses AI to automatically highlight the most important object and segment it from other parts of the image. The company will also introduce other AI features in the coming months, such as automatic AI image categorization and more natural language search. AI upscaling and super-resolution features have also been confirmed as being in development.

Nothing says that the 3.0 update will be available in open beta from October. The public rollout will start in December. The list of supported devices will reportedly be announced soon.
