Now only 'Muslim meal' with halal certificate: Air India
NEW DELHI: With Vistara being merged into Air India and increasing operations, the Maharaja has now made it mandatory for passengers to book meals in advance. Accordingly, the halal certificate will now only apply to “Muslim meals” (MOML), which must also be booked in advance. Only some sectors, such as Saudi and Haj flights, will offer all halal meals.
In an internal circular issued this month, AI said: “Pre-booked meals with a MOML sticker should be treated as a special meal. A Halal certificate will only be issued for a discontinued MOML meal. All meals in the Saudi sectors will be halal and a halal certificate will be provided on the Jeddah, Dammam, Riyadh and Medina sectors, including Haj flights,” the circular said.
A senior AI official said, “We have always given passengers meal options for convenience. Now meal service has been streamlined (due to the greater size and scale of AI) and meals must be booked in advance.” Earlier, the relatively smaller AI (pre-merger with Vistara) was not very adamant about pre-booking meals.
