NY State Trooper Who Was Dating Andrew Cuomo’s Daughter Gets Promoted And Moves To NYC

A New York State trooper who was transferred to the Canadian border after it was discovered he was dating the daughter of deposed Governor Andrew Cuomo has been promoted.

Dane Pfeiffer, 35, has been upgraded to sergeant in the New York State Police and assigned to New York City beginning Thanksgiving Day.

Pfeiffer started dating Cara Kennedy-Cuomo, 25, in early 2020 when he was part of her father’s security detail in Albany and she had moved to the Executive Mansion during the coronavirus pandemic, according to sources.

Due to a sexual harassment scandal, Cuomo is no longer Pfeiffer’s boss.

People familiar with the matter told the New York Post that the governor found out that the couple had been dating shortly after and that Pfeiffer was removed from his security detail and transferred 160 miles away to a state police station in Plattsburgh.

State police said the trooper requested a “voluntary transfer” on May 24, 2020 to join Troop B in northeastern New York, but sources say he was sent away as punishment and “to keep him away from the daughter’.

A law enforcement source said Pfeiffer’s relationship with the governor’s daughter “broke dignitary protocol,” meaning he could no longer serve in Cuomo’s security detail.

However, the trooper’s actions were not classified as misconduct and did not appear on his record as an official disciplinary matter, they said.

That said, the governor was reportedly unhappy with the two dating and Pfeiffer was sent to the post just 25 miles south of Canada.

‘[Pfeiffer] was transferred to keep him away from the daughter because the governor didn’t like what they were doing,” a source said.

Pfeiffer, who attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, near Albany, New York, played tennis while in school.

He was so good that, according to school records, he ended up competing in two tournaments abroad.

Pfeiffer reportedly lives in Saratoga Springs, meaning he was hit with a 260-mile drive to Plattsburgh.

Sources called the trooper’s move “highway therapy” — a tactic in which officers pushed long commutes on them as an informal punishment.

‘[Cuomo] is limited in how much he can mess with him, so highway therapy is one of his few options,” a source told the Post.

Despite the distance, the couple reportedly cannot be kept apart and Pfeiffer often visits the Executive Mansion to take Cara on dates, despite her father’s disapproval, a source said.

State police claim the transfer is “routine” and came at the request of the trooper himself.

Trooper Pfeiffer requested voluntary transfer to Troop B [in May 2020], stating that he wanted to gain more field experience and advance his career to the rank of sergeant,” the New York State Police Department told the DailyMail.com in a statement.

“Such requests are routine, and it was granted.”

The spokesperson added that DailyMail.com’s request for comment from Cuomo’s office was also addressed to them.

Pfeiffer started his career at Troop B when he graduated from the State Police Academy in 2015.

Pfeiffer’s grandmother was even interviewed about the courtship and Cuomo’s apparent attempts to separate the two.

“Dane has always been a wonderful, sweet, kind and thoughtful person,” Marianne Pfeiffer told The New York Post in November 2020. “I think he’s being ridiculous because he’s always been a good friend of the family—and a good friend of Deen.”

Cuomo has often joked about his daughter Mariah’s love interests, but has made no mention of Cara being in a relationship.

Earlier this month, he tweeted a photo of him sitting at the dinner table with his three daughters – Cara, her twin sister Mariah and Michaela, 23.

‘Sunday dinner – Check. Meatballs – Check. The boyfriend – ?’ He wrote.

Cuomo apparently made a joke about Mariah’s friend Tellef Lundevall, 29, and a spokesperson later told The Post, “We love the boyfriend.”

Days later, he continued the joke in an appearance on “The Late Show.”

“Let’s just say the boyfriend isn’t with us anymore,” he said before bursting into laughter.

In April, Cuomo said Lundevall was “very nice” before advising other dads to always say “I like the boyfriend.”

“The answer to what you think of the boyfriend is always, ‘I like the boyfriend.’ Always,” he said during one of his daily press conferences as he made a detour from the coronavirus to what to do when your daughter brings her lover for Sunday dinner.

“In this case, I actually like the boyfriend,” he said.

He warned of a syndrome called “NDS” when parents resist their daughters’ mate choices.

“NDS is Natural Defiance Syndrome,” he said.

“It’s not documented, but it’s a mental illness where if you as a father say, ‘I don’t like him,’ the Natural Defiance Syndrome kicks in and they start to love the boyfriend more because he is opposed by the father, ‘ he said at the time.

He later confirmed that he likes “the boyfriend” but that his dog Scout “doesn’t.”

The move didn’t end the couple’s relationship, as Pfeiffer regularly returned to the Executive Mansion to pick up Kennedy-Cuomo for dates, much to the former governor’s anger, a source said.

It is not clear if the two are still dating.
