NYT Connections Today (Contest #446) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game, #446, are…
- YELLOW: Shiny things DIAMOND, GLITTER, GOLD, SEQUINS
- GREEN: JOIN THE SUMMER OLYMPIC EVENTS BOX, DIVE, GATE, ROW
- BLUE: WORLD WONDERS GARDENS, LIGHTHOUSE, PYRAMID, TEMPLE
- PURPLE: ICE ___ CREAM, CUBE, MACHINE, STORM
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: Failure
Guess what? That’s right – it’s another FAIL. Another one! This is getting ridiculous. I’m starting to get to the point where I can’t write this column anymore because no one will trust anything I say. Why should you trust my guidance when I repeatedly turn out to be a LOSER? I’ll keep going, but there are only so many failures I can tolerate without my self-confidence being completely destroyed by this ordeal.
Is it that hard today? Well, I described it as ‘moderate’ because in retrospect it is solvable. The one who killed me was ICE [BLANK]partly because it wouldn’t accept ICE BOX, although that is a thing. So I guessed three times with different combinations of that plus CUBE, MACHINE, STORM and CREAM, but didn’t get the right four.
Other than that I was happy to get the blue group of ‘ancient wonders’, but I’m bummed I didn’t notice that FENCE, BOX, ROW and DIVE are all Olympic activities. Oh well, the Olympics were weeks ago now, I had forgotten all about that…
How was your day? Send me an email and let me know.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically have to solve the last question, because you can answer it by elimination. Plus, you can make a maximum of four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It is a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can obscure the answers.
It is free to play via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
