NYT Connections Today — Hints and Answers for Monday, July 15 (Game #400)
And so Connections reaches the 400 game milestone. Will it do a Wordle and still go past 1,000? Hard to say, but given its popularity, it seems likely. Today’s game is a potentially hard game, which means it’s about in line with the 399 games before it!
What do you do when you’re done? Well, play some word games of course. I also have daily Wordle hints and answers , Strands hints and answers and Quordle hints and answers articles if you need help with those too.

NYT Connections Today (Contest #400) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections Game #400 are…
- YELLOW: CONSIDER AS TRUE ACCEPT, BELIEVE, BUY, TRUST
- GREEN: FACADE BLUFF, FRONT, SHAME, SHOW
- BLUE: WAYS TO SECURE A TV BASE, BRACKET, MOUNTING, STANDARD
- PURPLE: BOTTLE SIZES OF BEVERAGE BOTTLES FIFTH, HANDLE, LITRE, PINT
- My score: Moderate
- My score: 2 mistakes
TODAY I LEARNED THAT A HANDLE of liquor exists – and the fact that I didn’t know that until today explains why I needed two hints here. In my defense, this was the purple group, so the hardest of the four. Of course, I didn’t know that at the time, but if I had known then, I probably would have saved it for the end, instead of tackling it from the beginning.
After failing twice (I suspected that SHAM and then BASE were perhaps drink measurements), I moved on and things got a bit easier. Yellow, ‘respect as true’, was much easier, and green ‘facade’ too. At this point I was down to eight words, three of which were still drink sizes, and it was a simple task to extract the four needed for ‘ways to secure a TV base’.
How was your day? Send me an email and let me know.

- PURPLE: WORDS FOR “NOT” BRAZIL, BUTTER, DOUGH, PINE
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically have to solve the last question, because you can answer it by elimination. Plus, you can make a maximum of four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It is a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can obscure the answers.
It is free to play via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
