NYT Connections Today (Contest #456) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game, #456, are…
- YELLOW: TURNING RED IN THE FACE BLUSHING, BURNING, FLUSHING, GLOWING
- GREEN: CONTINUOUS CONSECUTIVE, NON-STOP, SOLID, STRAIGHT
- BLUE: FLAVOUR RANGE FLIGHT, PLATTER, SAMPLER, TASTING
- PURPLE: SITCOMS BLOSSOM, COACH, COMMUNITY, FULL HOUSE
- My rating: Simple
- My score: 1 error
Luck is always a factor in Connections, because unless you’re incredibly good at reading, you’re unlikely to know every answer in every category all the time. For example, today I saw that PLATTER, SAMPLER, and TASTING were all types of menus, but I had no idea what the fourth one was. But looking at the remaining possibilities, I went on a hunch for FLIGHT and that turned out to be correct, giving me the blue FLAVOR ASSORTMENT group. I have no idea what “FLIGHT” refers to here, but it didn’t matter – because I got it right anyway.
My task was made easier, admittedly, by the fact that yellow (GET RED IN THE FACE) and purple (SITCOMS) were both pretty easy today. In retrospect, green (CONTINUOUS) was too, but sometimes these things are only clear in hindsight.
How was your day? Send me an email and let me know.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically have to solve the last question, because you can answer it by elimination. Plus, you can make a maximum of four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It is a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can obscure the answers.
It is free to play via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
