I don’t want to complain every day about the difference between American English and British English, but it would be nice if the NYT could avoid ambiguity in that area or come up with a technical solution. For example, in today’s Connections there is the word STORY. But it is not in there as a story, but as what we in the UK would call a STOREY with an E. So the connection between the word and LEVEL, DECK and FLOOR only occurred to me late, after I had spent hours trying to think of a fourth word for that green group.
Okay, rant over – aside from that issue, today’s game isn’t all that bad, although the prank verbs purple group isn’t one I would have gotten myself. But hey, it’s been about 40 years since I was young enough to pull these kinds of pranks (and I didn’t anyway, being a shy nerd).
How was your day? Send me an email and let me know.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically have to solve the last question, because you can answer it by elimination. Plus, you can make a maximum of four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It is a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can obscure the answers.
It is free to play via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
