NYT Connections Today (Game #528) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game #528 are…
- YELLOW: SOUNDS LIKE A DOG BARK, BAY, HOW, SNOW
- GREEN: BROADCAST, AS ONLINE MEDIA AIR, PLAY, RUN, STREAM
- BLUE: VERBS for making cocktails Garnish, muddle, stir, strain
- PURPLE: ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES, METAPHORICAL CHAIN, LADDER, PYRAMID, TREE
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: 1 tip
It seems I’ve gotten into the habit of guessing groups with one connection in mind, only to get it right even though the answers were all connected by something else. I had two today: purple and blue, although I was halfway through in both cases.
I first took purple and put together PYRAMID, LADDER, and CHAIN as things people could mold themselves into. I tried MUDDLE with them – don’t judge me, it was just a guess – and when that didn’t make sense, I turned to TREE, which turned out to be correct. I was on the right track: the actual connection was ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES, METAPHORICAL.
For blue, I felt like GARNISH, STIR, and STRAIN went together like you did with food, and I thought maybe MUDDLE was related too; are you perhaps confusing a salad? Maybe not! But it made sense anyway, even though the connection was actually COCKTAIL-MAKING VERBS. Good thing, too.
How did you do today? Send me an email and let me know.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the New York Times’ increasingly popular word games. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you technically don’t have to solve the last question because you can answer it by a process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It’s a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, beware of homophones and other word games that can obscure the answers.
It is playable for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
