While this Strands puzzle isn’t that difficult, I found it impossible to get started without using a hint; the theme clue, “Not just for poking,” was just too vague. Sure, it makes sense in hindsight… but that doesn’t really help now!
Once I had that first word, HOCKEY, it was a lot easier. CONTROL was at the bottom of the board, the spangram STICK was pretty clear too, and at that stage it was just a matter of fitting words onto the board.

What is NYT Strands?
Strands is the new word game from the NYT, after Wordle and Connections. It is now out of beta and is therefore a full member of the NYT stable of games and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
