I needed a hint here, because the theme clue “Special Delivery” wasn’t enough to identify the concept, even after I accidentally discovered my first answer, SWING. Which was a shame – if I had gotten CRIB or HIGH CHAIR or FUN PEN, I’m sure things would have been fine. But SWING can mean a lot of things, just like Special Delivery, so I was left in the dark until I used that hint.
After that, it was plain sailing, except for the spangram; I saw that BABY was in it, but had to cross out a few more answers before I realized that GEAR was the other half of the word. But in short: it was, uh, child’s play.

What is NYT Strands?
Strands is the new word game from the NYT, after Wordle and Connections. It is now out of beta and is therefore a full member of the NYT stable of games and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
