NYT Strands Today (Contest #177) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands question, game #177, are…
- PEPPERS
- ZUCCHINI
- EGGPLANT
- TOMATOES
- ONIONS
- SPANGRAM: RATATOUILLE
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: Perfect
Speaking of Strands’ theme clues, today’s is one of the most cryptic we’ve ever had – until you know the answer, of course. “Pixar fare” refers to the classic animated film RATATOUILLE, which forms the spangram, but the actual theme of the game isn’t cartoons, but the French dish ratatouille, or rather its ingredients.
Whether or not that stopped you will probably depend on how much time you spent randomly searching for answers. I found PEPPERS and ZUCCHINI without actively searching for them, and that was enough to make me realize I should be looking for vegetables. I still couldn’t see the connection to Pixar, but that didn’t matter, because when I found EGGPLANT and TOMATOES, the spangram revealed itself too.
