Once again, a Strands puzzle that turns out to be “synonyms for another word” is an easy one to solve. Which makes sense, since it’s generally an easier task to come up with other words that mean the same thing than it is to come up with words related to a particular topic when you don’t know much about the topic in question…
Anyway, the theme here was clear when I found SUPERLATIVE (after trying and failing with SUPER), and when I combined it with the theme clue ‘You’re the best!’ EXCELLENT was an easy solution at the top right after that, so onto the spangram, CHAMPION. It took me a while to get to the next one, ICONIC, but the last two fell into place without a hitch after that.

Strands is the new word game from the NYT, after Wordle and Connections. It is now out of beta and is therefore a full member of the NYT stable of games and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
