NYT Stards Today (Game #456) – The answers
The answers to today’s strands, Game #456, are …
- PLUM
- CHERRY
- STEAK
- HEIRLOOM
- Jubilee
- Lunch box
- Spangram: Tomato
- My review: Simple
- My score: 1 hint
I thought the theme ‘on the vine’ originally refers to grapes, so I started looking for varieties of wine. I found no, I took a hint and got a plum. Then I found Cherry. At this stage I thought we were looking for fruit (not that cherries or plums on vines grow).
The cent – or do I have to plum – finally fall when I saw steak and thought: “that’s not fruit”. That said, two of these types of tomatoes were new to me because I had never heard of Jubilee or lunch box.
All this made me wonder what kind of tomatoes people throw at each other at the annual La Tomatina festival in Spain and the answer is a Valencian pear variety that is overripe for extra softness. Rock up with some supermarket Cherry Toms and you will be banned for life.
How did you do it today? Let me know in the comments below.
Nyt Strands’s answers yesterday (Sunday 1 June, game #455)

- Courtroom
