Aidan O’Brien’s huge derby favorite The Lion in Winter is a huge drifter in the market -while gamblers prepared for BIN slips that they have been holding for months.

Stablemate Delacroix has replaced him at the head of the market in the midst of a stunning increase in bets – with a different O’Brien -Hardloper who also declined.

Ryan Moore drives on the lion in the winter and wins a horse race.

Winner of Acomb Stakes The Lion The Lion in the winter – who flopped in York in Key Trial de Dante – was at the time of writing at the time of writing as short as 11-4 last night.

He was made 8-1 for the derby in August last year after he broke the track record in York and looked like the next big thing.

But nine months later, Coral reported a flurry of money for Coolmore ownership Stablemate Delacroix, who looks like Ryan Moore’s mountain in the world’s most prestigious race.

David Stevens from the company said: “Since Aidan O’Brien’s comments earlier this week that Ryan Moore would find it difficult not to ride Delacroix on Epsom, the winner of Leopardstown Trial has been by far the best-supported derby-mededist.

“He has regained an outright favoritism for the classic, in contrast to De Leeuw in the winter, which has now been relaxed to 6-1 for the race of next Saturday.”

While Alex Apati van Ladbrokes remarked: “It is a story about two market movers for Aidan O’Brien, and while Delacroix continues to withdraw from the pursuit package, the lion has taken mistreatment in the winter opportunities in the last days if the latest ODDS have something to do.”

And Betfred spokesperson Matt Hulmes added ominously: “The vibes around the lion in the winter in the market are far from positive, which feels much more than Jockey Talk that preceded the earlier movements this week.

“The old Ante-Post favorite is 6-1, larger than he followed immediately after his Dante effort in York.”

De Leeuw in the winter had spent months at the head of the gamble and was clearly NO1 Coolmore Horse for the race, mainly by former winner Sea the Stars.

But Derby sponsors Betfred are now only 15-8 Delacroix, which this season has been enormously impressive in two victories and looks like he will have no problem with the 1M4F trip and the wavy track.

There was also an important market movement for O’Brien’s other derby-runner Lambourn, who was 20-1 this morning, but is now as short as 9s.

The lion in the winter was enthusiastic and everywhere in the store in the Dante on his return of 267 days off.

O’Brien, who has seen Superstar Stayer Kyprios only went a few weeks prior to a tilt with a third golden cup at Royal AscotDid the run insisted that the run was not as bad as it seemed.

But just like Kyprios, the markets seem to tell the story prior to the £ 1.5 million blockbuster race next Saturday.

Ballydoyle -boss, O’Brien, said earlier that he thinks No1 Jockey Moore will ride: “Ryan will think as late as he can think.

“Of course I would imagine that it is between Delacroix and the Lion in the winter.

“At the moment I would say that it would be difficult for him not to ride Delacroix, but that does not mean he will not do that.”
