Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif shows off dramatic new feminine makeover after winning gold in Paris, where her failed gender tests caused a huge stir
Olympic champion Imane Khelif has sported a new look to show off her hard-won gold medal in Paris.
Khelif’s participation in the women’s Olympic boxing event was a source of debate during the Games, especially after Italian fighter Angela Carini abandoned their bout after just 46 seconds.
Khelif, along with his Taiwanese colleague Lin Yu-ting, were disqualified from the 2023 World Championships by the IBA after they reportedly failed a gender test.
Still, the Algerian boxer kept a low profile and won gold for her country in Paris, showing off her new precious metal after undergoing a makeover.
In a video posted to Instagram, Khelif is seen hitting the camera, then seen in a pink floral dress with matching earrings, pink eyeliner and lip gloss.

Her participation in the competition, which was vigorously defended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was discussed during the Games. The reason for this was that she had been disqualified from an earlier competition, which had led to controversy.
Although the IBA banned her and Lin from the world championships, the IOC had a different opinion on the matter.
“This is a question of justice: women should be allowed to participate in women’s competitions. And the two are women,” said President Thomas Bach.
Khelif even defended her own participation, saying, “I am fully qualified to take part in this competition. I am a woman like any other woman.
“I was born a woman. I’ve lived a woman. I’ve competed as a woman – there’s no doubt about that.”
However, she has still faced criticism from a number of figures, including X and Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who named and shamed the 25-year-old in a lawsuit.
The fighter was also referred to as a man by former President of the United States of America Donald Trump, and Khelif admitted she was “affected” by the “noise”.

“Who wants men to compete in women’s sports? I want to congratulate the young woman who went from being a man to being a woman. He… She won gold,” Trump said.
His comments were false: Khelif is not transgender and was born female, but it was claimed she has male XY chromosomes after undergoing testing through the IBA last year. Since then, authorities have largely refused to answer questions about how the process works.
“Right after that there was a lot of noise from politicians, athletes, stars, artists – Elon Musk and Donald Trump – and it hurt me a lot. I can’t describe how scared I was,” the 25-year-old said.
“This touched me. I’m not lying to you, it touched me very much. It hurt a lot. I can’t describe the fear I had, but thank God I was able to overcome it. Thank God all the people in Algeria and the Arab world knew Imane Khelif with her femininity, her courage, her will.”
Amid heated debate over the two boxers’ participation in the Olympics, the IBA held a press conference that apparently failed to clear up the confusion surrounding the fighters’ participation.
IBA president Kremlev, who again called Olympics chairman Bach “a sodomite,” offered few clear answers in the hastily organized, farcical two-hour contest.
“The tests show they were male,” he said. “We don’t verify what they have between their legs. We don’t know if they were born that way, or if there were changes.”
In a briefing document on the table, the results stated: ‘XY chromosomes were found in samples from both athletes’.
“The second tests confirmed the first tests,” Kremlev said. “If people have doubts, consult them. They can do their own tests.”

Ioannis Filippatos, former chairman of the IBA’s medical commission, said “abnormalities” were discovered in blood tests in 2022.
“The medical results, the blood results, and the laboratory say that these are male boxers,” Filippatos said.
“The problem is that we have two blood tests with karyotype of man. This is the answer from the laboratory.”
According to the National Human Genome Research, a karyotype is an individual’s complete set of chromosomes.
With the victory, the 25-year-old became the first Algerian to win Olympic gold in boxing since Hocine Soltani triumphed in the lightweight class in 1996.
Khelif’s victory sparked wild celebrations among her compatriots on social media, with Riyad Mahrez tweeting emojis of the country’s flag and issuing a salute similar to the one she gave after her hand was raised.
Mahrez had previously voiced his support for Khelif in a video he posted during her race to the final in France.
‘Hello, Imane Khelif, I am Riyad Mahrez and I know you are a great boxer.
‘Good luck and I hope you are the first Algerian to win the World Championship!’
Meanwhile, AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer praised Khelif’s mental resilience throughout the tournament.
Khelif, whose involvement in the tournament has been shrouded in controversy, paid tribute to her compatriots after the historic victory
“Congratulations to our Olympic champion Imane Khelif,” he wrote on his X account.
‘Despite the hate, misinformation and ruthlessness, she remained mentally strong and won the gold medal and honored Algeria.’
The IOC had strongly criticized the IBA, the umbrella organization that had previously disqualified both fighters.
Carini, who stopped her fight with Khelif after just 46 seconds, later apologized for her actions, refusing to shake hands with the Algerian.
