Olympic gymnast Suni Lee reveals her pre-competition mani trick
OLYMPIC gymnast Suni Lee knows how to nail her balance beam routine – and her manicure – down to the last detail.
The athlete shared her simple and affordable nail tricks that are worthy of a gold medal.
PACKING FOR PARIS
Lee’s competition prep may not be as focused on her fingernails as her floor routine, but she does use the Kiss Salon Nail X-Tend LED Soft Gel System Nails Kit.
“I hold it under the light for about a minute so there are no bubbles and it stays put,” she said during an online event in partnership with Kiss.
Lee indicated that the set is perfect for packing and therefore ideal for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.
“It was super important to make sure I had something that wasn’t going to break easily,” she said, adding that these are “super easy to travel with and just super quick to make.”
“It’s so easy, it doesn’t take up any space, I can just take it with me everywhere if something happens or if it comes loose,” she added.
“It’s super convenient and I love it and it takes no time at all. It’s super, super cheap and I don’t have to go to the salon to make an appointment for a nail treatment.
“I can take the kit with me everywhere and I can also use it when I travel. It’s super easy to do when I’m on a plane or even in the car.
“I can just buy it and do it at home in 15 to 20 minutes and then I’m good to go.”

Lee, who calls herself a “French girl,” likes her classic French manicure in a certain shape.
“I have thick fingers, so I feel like an almond shape really stretches my fingers. I love it,” she said.
She prefers a glossy manicure over a matte one.
“I love a nice, shiny look,” she said.
BANGING – WITHOUT BLOWING DOWN
For Suni, her nails must be as ‘strong’ as she is.
“I’m always looking for things that are flexible, light and durable, because we do a lot of things with our hands out there,” she said.
“They’re not like when you get your nails done and your fingers get stiff or sore because they’re pressing on them so hard. These don’t do that, which I love,” she added.
“You don’t feel them when they’re on your nails. I love that they’re already sculpted and polished, so I don’t have to shape them myself. I’m not good at polishing my nails.
“They save me so much time and it looks like I just stepped out of the salon.”
STANDING OVATION
It’s also a way for her to express herself.
“This is where I show my individuality wherever my work takes me, on and off the competition floor,” she said.
“There are so many designs you can create, the possibilities are truly endless.
Her nail style isn’t just for show.
“Because I have nails, I’m forced to grab the bar. I know it’s going to hurt if I miss the bar,” she said.
“When I wear my nails, I’m forced to stay on the bar. It helps me focus on that alone. But I also like that I can change my look so easily, for example to suit my mood or outfit.”
Kiss Salon Nail X-Tend LED Soft Gel System Nails Kit costs $22.99 and lasts up to two weeks.
