For her part, Kayla described the ‘painful’ decision to split from Lochte, which she met for the first time in 2016.

“I have the wedding in the highest way, so this is one of the most painful, revealing and challenging seasons of my life,” she said. “I hesitate to share until I could do this from a place of healing – not from fresh, open wounds.”
