His contacts in Ukraine have advised him to wait until the war ends to try to realize such ideas, which he intends to play mainly in an advisory role. “I think the architects who rebuild Ukraine should be Ukrainian,” he said. “There is a lot of great talent. I think what they just need is support.”

Speedstac’s story about resilience was deeply impressed by the French pavilion curators. “Speedstac went straight to the heart of what we tried to do,” said Mr. Macfarlane. “It was not about leaving. It was about repairing. People are aware of what happened, but they repair with life.”

He and Mrs. Jakob, the founders of Paris -based architecture studio Jakob + Macfarlane, are known for adaptive reuse. In 2012 they ended the transformation of Oude Haven along the Seine in the city of fashion and design building. Instead of finding a new exhibition building in Venice this year, they have adjusted the existing pavilion. They also hired Ukrainian architects after the war broke out.

“People, when they are injured, often don’t want to move,” thought Mrs. Jakob. “They want to stay where they are.” That sentiment reflected the design of Mr. Radewych: to make residents rooted, even in the midst of trauma, and to build on the foundations of what was already there.

Ryan E. Smith, the director of the School of Architecture at the University of Arizona and a founder of MOD X, a Prefab Construction Advisory Group, noted that Speedstac use of concrete is not ideal if one takes into account the carbon emissions related to the production of the material. Nor would it be as effective as lighter solutions in places where the speed is of the utmost importance. But Speedstac, he said, could fit well in Ukraine (and other vulnerable places) because of the robustness and fame of the region with the technology.

The WZMH team, in collaboration with Toronto Metropolitan University, develops a concrete that is 20 percent lighter than standard, encloses in prison as one of the ingredients and even shows conducting properties that could ever provide a day with a smart smart infrastructure. Working together with Ukrainian software engineers, has created a real-time installation app called Doton that follows crane movements and improves the building precision. “One invention leads to three or four others,” said Mr. Radewych.
