A jockey whose father died in a tragic fall, just a few days before he was born, the ranks are cleaned up – banging in winners for Willie Mullins.
This year Sean Cleary-Farrell has three winners of only four rides for the all-overer Irish trainer.
He noted his first career -doubles on board Mullins‘Odds-on hotshots Spanish Harlem and stay at Punchestown on Sunday.
Mullins’ right hand David Casey was full of praise for Cleary-Farrell afterwards.
And he hinted that he could get the leg in a number of races with big money on board the Spanish Harlem – which was fourth in the BET365 Gold Cup – when the new season starts well.
He said: “Sean is full -time in Willie and is a good driver and works hard.
“He took a few weeks off and rode a winner on the flat in France.
“These days are for boys like him. He gets his chance and he takes it with both hands.
“Sean gave the Spanish Harlem a good ride and he kept gallop well.
“I would say that better land suits him and clearly traveling the extensive travel. He ran a really good race in Sandown.
“I would say he will look at races such as the Kerry National and Munster National.”
The rapid success of Cleary-Farrell is double impressive given the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the death of his father aged only 22.
Sean Cleary was one of the ‘leading young riders’ of Ireland and described as a ‘unique’ talent when he was killed in a race in Galway in October 2003.
Tragically enough, Sean JNR was born only two months after his father was hired as a result of serious head injuries in the leak.
Cleary-Farrell said he described his father The Irish field: “My deceased father Sean died tragically after a fall in Galway, a few months before I was born.
“Unfortunately, there are few videos or DVDs of his journeys, but photos of his winners still adorn the walls of my grandparents’ house.
“When I grew up, I was always aware of who he was and what an accomplished jockey he had been during his short career.”
Mullins took Cleary-Farrell under his wings in Closutton and the conditional jockey says he loves that.
The Irish handler has also started Give more journeys to the enormously promising Anna McGuinnessThat last weekend had a winner under the Mullins Banner.
Given the superstars they ride every day at Mullins headquarters, it is no surprise that they work relatively easily on the right racecourse.
Speaking after his last victory, Cleary-Farrell said: “I can’t describe how I feel, it will take me a while to get rid of this cloud.
“A big thank you to Willie for giving the opportunity to ride on these horses, he takes care of me.”
It sounds like they will look forward to each other for many months and hopefully for years in the housing of the winner.
