There is no release date yet, but Netflix has announced A piece season 2 in September 2023. A week before the renewal, producer Marty Adelstein suggested A piece Season 2 was ready to go, but two major Netflix hurdles blocked its path. Fortunately, those issues didn’t prove to be detrimental to the second season’s cause. Given A piece Season 1 was already the king of the High Seas TV series weeks after its launch, so it was only a matter of time before Netflix ordered a second season.

One Piece Season 2 Cast: Confirmed & Rumors
Full spoilers follow for A piece season 1.
It’s fair to assume we’ll see the entire Straw Hats Crew back for A piece season 2:
- Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
- Emily Rudd as Nami
- Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
- Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
- Taz Skylar as Sanji
Monkey D. Garp (Vincent Regan), who turned out to be Luffy’s grandfather and who tested Luffy to see if he was committed to his dream, will also likely return, as will Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward) – who swore to kill Luffy – and rival Captain Alvida (Isorelýs Paulino).
As for potential newcomers: beloved actor Jamie Lee Curtis – a huge fan of A piece – took to Instagram in late 2023 to throw her hat into the ring for the role of Doctor Kureha, who joins the pirate gang as their official medic (a necessity, given the sheer amount of violent skirmishes they get into).
In response to Curtis’ post, former showrunner Matthew Owens wrote, “Hope to speak to you soon,” before later saying Deadline: “At this point, we’re writing for her – we really, really want her to come and play with us.” The Season 2 announcement video also seemed to hint at this potential all-star cast, with Oda adding: “As of now, it seems to me that the Straw Hats need a great doctor… we’ll see.”

Speculation about the story of One Piece season 2

Major spoilers ahead A piece season 1, as well as possible spoilers for season 2.
The plot synopsis for season 2 has not yet been revealed, but we do have a clearer idea of what it will entail, thanks to the new cast, the manga series, and the A piece anime adaptation. We’ve also been teased with a post on X that revealed the title of the first episode, “The Beginning and the End,” which hints at a possible story arc for episode 48 of the original manga, “The Town of the Beginning and the End – Arrival at Loguetown.” New addition to the cast, Smoker (Callum Kerr) is seen as the main antagonist of the Loguetown arc, so this could potentially hint at where the A piece story continues.
Season 1 ended with the stretchy Luffy turning his back on the Marines before having an all-out showdown with Arlong (freeing Nami’s people in the process) and his grandfather. However, when Garp relents and reveals that he’s been testing Luffy the entire time, all seems to be well in Straw Hat land. With Nami now officially joining the Straw Hat crew, the group joins forces to venture to The Grand Line in order to find the titular One Piece, which Luffy hopes will fulfill his dream of becoming King of the Pirates.
As it happens, not all is well. Following his humiliation at Luffy’s hands, Captain Nezumi has placed a bounty of 30 million berries on our protagonist’s head, and several of the nightmarish characters who seem intent on capturing him – dead or alive – will not turn down a prize of that magnitude. Expect this manhunt to be a major storyline in A piece season 2.
Considering that Season 1 ran for around 90 chapters in Oda’s engrossing (and seemingly never-ending) manga series, it’s likely that there will be a similar breadth to the sequel. This means we could see the crew land on an island of giants, as well as battle a band of bounty hunters bent on dominating the nation of Alabasta. Smoker’s arrival will also see him pop up in the Little Garden and Arabasta arcs, as well as the Loguetown arc we mentioned earlier.
Speaking of the Arabasta Arch, as suggested by IGN, A piece Season 2 is expected to follow closely, in line with the A piece original manga. The Arabasta arc is known for the Baroque Works, a criminal syndicate bent on conquering the Arabasta Kingdom, and who is an officer of Baroque Works? None other than Mr. 3 himself. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Baroque Works either, with Zoro almost being recruited into the shady gang in the pilot episode of season 1.
Of the new additions to the cast, there are a number of other storylines that could potentially feature in A piece Season 2. While we’ve speculated about Smoker’s place in Season 2, he’ll also be joined by his crewmate Tashigi, who, despite a rivalry with Luffy, becomes an ally of his during the Arabasta arc. There’s also Crocus from the Reverse Mountain arc, Dorry and Brogy, the two captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates, who are an ally of the Straw Hats during the Little Garden and Egghead arcs. And finally, Dalton and Wapol from the Drum Island arc – Dalton an ally, Wapol definitely not. Either way, there’s potential for plenty of team-ups and rivalries on the cards.

There is no A piece season 2 trailer yet. As soon as that changes, we’ll let you know.
The Future of One Piece on Netflix
Let’s start with the obvious: given the level of success of its predecessor, it’s highly unlikely A piece Season 2 will mark the end of the live-action adaptation. Indeed, with over 1,000 chapters (and counting) in Oda’s legendary manga series, there’s still plenty of source material to draw from.
The good news is that we could see A piece span more than a decade. Speaking to DeadlineAdelstein and Clements revealed their hopes for the future, with Adelstein saying, “We’re hoping for 12 seasons, there’s so much material.” Speaking before Owens’ departure, Clements added, “We have over 1,080 chapters in the manga at this point. We have plans with Matt about how we would split up multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we’d probably only use half the chapters of the manga. It could really go on forever.”
In June, the rumor mill was set in motion with speculation about a third season renewal, which came from a Comicbook.com interview with Brashaad Mayweather, who plays Patty on the show. When asked about a third season, Mayweather said: “They [Netflix] filming two seasons – seasons two and three – back-to-back, starting soon.” Since the interview circulated online, Mayweather has said he was only speculating about that possibility. Netflix has confirmed that the reports about season 3 were “inaccurate at this time,” with What’s on Netflix?also. In short: A piece Season 3 hasn’t actually been greenlit yet, but it feels inevitable now.
