OnePlus Buds Will Soon Let You Turn Off This AI-Powered Calling Feature
OnePlus Buds — the company’s truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds lineup — could soon be updated with new functionality, thanks to the company’s adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), according to a report. Users will reportedly be able to toggle AI-powered call summary on and off via their TWS earbuds. The feature was reportedly spotted during an APK teardown of the device’s companion app. The feature is speculated to make accessing the function faster during phone calls.

Android Authority and X (formerly Twitter user @AssembleDebug discovers the feature following an APK teardown of the OnePlus Buds app version 14.8.2 for Android smartphones. The publication appears to have enabled the UI for the alleged feature that allows users to start or end call summaries through the earbuds.

A screenshot shared by the publication suggests that the feature could be called ‘AI Call Assistant’. Users will possibly be able to toggle it on and off by triple-pressing the stem of the OnePlus Buds. However, only OnePlus devices that support the AI summary feature will be able to control it using the TWS earbuds, as per the report.
According to the report, AI conversation summary is not available when the smartphone is in super power saving mode, meditation mode or child mode. Users can enable conversation summary to view important information about the conversation, including time and place, even when their phone is not nearby.
OnePlus has jumped on the AI bandwagon and has launched several notable features for its smartphones in the past few months. With its latest OnePlus Nord 4, the company brought camera-focused additions such as AI Eraser 2.0, AI Smart Cutout 2.0 and AI Clear Face among other AI Toolbox features such as AI Speak, Recording Summary and AI Link boost.
According to the report, the AI call summary feature could be rolling out to the OnePlus Buds 3, the company’s latest TWS earbuds that debuted in February. It’s unclear if the feature will also be introduced to older models. Given that the feature was discovered during an APK teardown, it may or may not make it to the public version of the app.
