Onkyo’s new 8K receiver has high-quality calibration, but is more expensive than the competition
Onkyo’s new mid-range AVR, the TX-RZ30, offers Dolby Atmos playback, 8K video support and Dirac Live Room Correction.
The Onkyo TX-RZ50 and TX-NR6100 have been two of my favorite AVRs for years, and the latest model sits right in the middle. The TX-RZ30 is a $1,200 receiver that puts out 100 watts per channel and supports nearly every streaming platform and surround codec out there.
First, Dirac Live Room Correction offers an alternative to traditional calibration routines with control over the full frequency range (20 Hz to 20 kHz) for music and movies.
You can control the Onkyo receiver with Google Assistant and Siri, and you can stream via Google Cast built-in, AirPlay 2, Spotify, Amazon Music HD, Tidal, Deezer, Pandora and Tunein. The receiver has two-way Bluetooth for listening through headphones and streaming from your phone. Sonos integration is also available.
While much of the competition sits under $1,000, the RZ30 has a bit more headroom, going head-to-head with models like the Yamaha A4A and Denon AVR-X2800 . Given the quality of its label mates, I expect good things from the RZ30.
The Onkyo TX-RZ30 will be available from October 2024.
