- 4.1 excels in coding and is available for all paid subscribers
- 4.1 Mini is free to use and is activated once you have reached your daily GPT-4O limit
Chatgpt I have just received a huge upgrade in the form of GPT-4.1 for paid subscribers and 4.1 Mini for free users.
The rollout was announced by Openi On X, and the new models are available directly in Chatgpt from today.
The company says that GPT-4.1 is a “specialized model that excels in coding tasks and instructions after” while 4.1 mini 4.0 mini replaces and is a “fast, capable and efficient small model”.
If you are a chatgpt plus, pro or team user, you have access to these models from the ‘More models’ section. 4.1 Mini is activated for free users such as Fallback model once you have reached your GPT-4O use lines.
We still have to test one of these new models, but we will test them and give you a full report about their performance in the coming days.
On request, GPT-4.1 will be available directly in Chatgpt from today. GPT-4.1 is a specialized model that excels in coding tasks and instructions that follow. Because it is faster, it is a great alternative to OpenAI O3 & O4-Mini for daily coding needs.May 14, 2025
What’s in a name?
The naming schedule of OpenAi is becoming increasingly difficult to understand, and although the company is expected to remove some options in the future for a more streamlined AI experience, as it looks, it is confusing when 4O technically a more powerful model is than 4.1 mini.
As Chatgpt becomes more and more popular, it also seems to be increasingly confusing. OpenAI must explain models in the conditions of Layman for the average consumer – at the moment the importance of new models can be lost with many users, because no one knows what they mean outside AI lovers.
Don’t get me wrong – these new models are aimed at a certain type of person; But the company must work better to train more users and potential new users by simplifying the naming structure.
Until then we will just have to grind and accept our teeth that 4o and 4.1 can exist next to O3, and they all serve different purposes. Great sigh.
