Oppo thinks the X8 series comes with a record button and here’s why
The Oppo Find X8 series is expected to debut in China on October 24. The alleged smartphone range is expected to feature a dedicated recording button for the camera, allowing quick access. Ahead of the expected launch, a company official has highlighted the reasons behind the inclusion of this new button in the Find X8 series and why it is different from the Camera Control button found on Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series.
Capture button on Oppo Find X8 series
In one after Taking to Chinese social media platform Weibo, Oppo Find series product manager Zhou Yibao detailed the addition of a dedicated camera recording button on the alleged Find X8 series. One of the reasons behind its inclusion is due to ‘pain points’ discovered in personal experiences. It’s meant to be a new, snappy way to take photos without using the handset’s touchscreen.
The director also highlighted how they encountered difficulties operating the camera in freezing temperatures while wearing gloves. Another example was a rafting adventure in Guangzhou, where the constantly moving raft, combined with water splashes, made it difficult to access the on-screen controls. Other examples include wanting to take photos of moments with children and pets or while horseback riding, all of which were missed due to the inability to quickly pull out the smartphone and take photos.
However, the Oppo official noted that the Find X8’s recording button is different from the new Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 series. While Apple’s latest smartphones have a new capacitive button that can be used to perform multiple tasks, including adjusting camera settings, the button on the Find X8 series is only for one purpose: taking photos.
It was designed with three principles in mind: ease of use, simplicity and appearance. The official highlighted their discussions with Oppo’s research and development team and concluded that it should be easy to use regardless of orientation, be as “simple as a volume knob” and be in line with the overall look of the smartphone.
