Oscar De La Hoya relives his battle of words with Canelo Alvarez, as the Mexican superstar’s ex-promoter jokes that he “fell asleep” during his points win against Gennady Golovkin… only for girlfriend Holly Sonders to keep him awake by “my a**’

- He has claimed that he was bored during the fight and almost fell asleep
- He joked that the only reason he stayed awake was because his girlfriend Holly Sonders ‘got my a**’
Canelo Alvarez’s former promoter Oscar De La Hoya has tricked the Mexican by claiming he nearly fell asleep on Saturday night during his trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin.
Canelo dominated the majority of the game against Golovkin, taking a unanimous victory on points, but De La Hoya was unimpressed by the fight, which lacked the action from their previous two encounters.
The 49-year-old joked on Instagram that he was about to dream away before his girlfriend Holly Sonders cheekily kept him awake.

De La Hoya previously promoted Canelo, but the pair have since gone their separate ways
“I fell asleep until @holly.sonders took my a**,” he wrote on his Instagram story alongside a photo of the couple together in Las Vegas.
De La Hoya has been dating TV reporter and social media influencer Sonders for just over a year, and last year she had a tattoo of the “Golden Boy” put on her shoulder to show her devotion to him.
The duo posted a number of photos together on social media in recent months, showing that they are closer than ever.

Meanwhile, De La Hoya’s decision to poke fun at Canelo is the final chapter in their tumultuous relationship.
De La Hoya promoted Canelo from the start of his career until 2020, when an argument between the pair resulted in the Mexican superstar being fired from his contract by Golden Boy Promotions.
The promoter, who has won world titles in six different weight divisions in his own career, previously threatened a comeback in the ring and expressed his desire to fight Canelo last year.

He’s since shelved his plans to make a comeback, but it seems he and Canelo still aren’t on good terms.
De La Hoya promoted the 32-year-old’s first two fights with Golovkin, posting on Instagram ahead of Saturday’s fight: “Looking forward to this trilogy fight tonight. Happy Mexican Independence weekend… good luck to both fighters.”
It wasn’t long before he resumed his battle of words with Canelo, however, as he accused the pound-for-pound star of being involved in a dull fight against Golovkin.
