Our neighbors could see through our fence – an eBay purchase gave us instant privacy
Are you tired of your neighbors being able to see through your fence?
A mother shared her clever trick for giving her family more privacy – and it was cheap too.
Heather Barclay shared how adding an artificial plant mat to her fence made her garden feel “cozier” and “more exciting.”
And luckily it wasn’t expensive, with parts starting at £4.99 each.
On her @heatherbarclayy account, she showed the incredible before and after clips using the privacy mat.
She wrote: “Hi guys, if you haven’t already figured it out, I’m on a mission to spruce up my garden.
“No, I’m not going to spend thousands of euros on it, but I do try to make it a bit more fun and a bit more exciting for the children.
“One of the things I wanted to do for a long time was add ivy all the way along the fence. I finally did it.
“Everyone I looked at knew that Ivy was an outrageous price, so I got it off eBay.
“I was very happy with the price. I bought the six metre by one metre, so like I said, it comes in a huge roll, and I think I used about two and a half rolls, I would say, for that whole fence and the back.
“To be honest, I’m very happy with it.”
Heather shared how she also added some to the back of her gate a few months ago and it’s holding up “amazingly”.
She continued: “I had high expectations for it, and considering the price I was really excited.
“As for attaching it to the fence, I used a staple gun. I probably have one from Stanley.
“I think we got that from B&Q.
“I originally had a cheap one, and it was completely useless, so I recommend getting a sturdier one.
“It was also very easy to cut and manipulate a little bit to where you want it. That’s it, all done. I’m very happy.
“It provides some privacy and makes the garden feel more homely and cozy.”
Many people were impressed with her privacy hack and hundreds of people liked her video.
One said, “What a difference.”
Another added: “That looks much better. I’m going to buy this.”
A third commented: “Oh that looks really Nicemakes the difference.”
How do you create privacy in your garden?
Creating privacy in your garden can be done in a number of ways, depending on your budget and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to improve privacy in your garden:
1. Fence
- Install a tall, sturdy wood or vinyl fence. This is one of the easiest ways to get instant privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still providing privacy.
2. Hedges and plants
- Fast growing evergreen shrubs or trees such as Leylandii, Thuja or Bamboo along the border of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge with plants such as Boxwood, Privet or Laurel. It may take a while to grow but will provide a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbing plants such as Ivy, Clematis or Wisteria on fences or trellis to create a lush, green privacy barrier.
3. Outdoor curtains
- Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos or patios for an easily customizable privacy solution.
4. Sound barriers
- A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or, install a fence designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.
